Hand quilting is the term for the running stitch applied to a "quilt sandwich" (top, batting and backing) of a quilt to secure the layers together and of course add design and dimension. All you need is a needle, handquilting thread, one or two thimbles and a lot of practice. Machine quilting is exactly what it says....your quilt is quilted using your sewing machine....generally a lot quicker, but I feel lacks the meditative and restorative action of handquilting....but is a whole lot faster.

You did a wonderful job. It is refreshing to know there are still some people who want to hand quilt. I've done it for years and it is my first love. I love the bright colors you choose, it brings a smile to ones face. Keep up the good work.
