I use mine too. I had trouble with mine falling in the floor so I went to thinking what I could do. I finally solved the problem with a large heavy Shrek glass my grandson left here. I put the thread spool in the glass behind the machne and it works great.

Sometimes they are called "thread lifters". They work great.

I have a thread adapter at my LQS that allows you to use different size spools.

The cone thread holder that is from Joann's is plastic and not heavy enough to work without tipping sometimes...so I raided the tool bench and found some big metal washers to put onto the spindle before I put the cone on it. It is now heavy enough that it doesn't shift around.

I place a straw on my thread holder then place the large spool on top of that, it has never fallen off or caused me any problem, it sounds a little wobbly sometimes, but works great.

I have one of these. It works. I didn't pay that much for it, though.

This only works with thread cones that have a wide opening.

I went to Dollar General got a heavy metal Paper towel holder- licked a suction cup onto the top of the big rod - put the cone on the small rod and away I went :thumbup:

My husband attached a home made version of the metal thread lifter thing to the sewing machine table that I use (but it is a really a free standing computer desk).

It never flies anywhere that way. It didn't cost anything because it was made from something sitting around.
