In April 2009 we rode our motorcycle on a Blue Bonnet Quilt
Shop Hop in Texas. Each shop we visited gave us a fat quarter and a quilt block pattern. After the 2nd shop, my mind was spinning on what kind of quilt I was going to put together from our trip.
I love Sunbonnet Sue so I thought it would be neat to tell the story of our trip using her and Sam throughout the quilt. Each shop we visited is depicted in my quilt and I actually made little tags and sewed onto the buildings with the names of the 12 shops. We stopped at a few wineries along the way and they are some of the buildings as well (the ones with cork fabric roofs). A lot of the shops on the blocks depict something that stood out to me about each shop. For example, the bldg. with the circus scene was the host shop and "Circus" was the theme in their shop. Their employees were dressed as circus characters and animals. The various other blocks in the quilt are the free patterns we were given. I tried to use the bluebonnet fabrics I collected along the way as much as possible in these blocks. It even rained on us one day, thus the block with Sue playing in the rain.
We had a wonderful time on our 1st ever shop hop and can reflect on it often while enjoying our memory quilt.

I love the quilt and the story that goes with it. I hope you write it down, it means a lot to the people, who you one day, will leave behind.

I take pics of my quilts and write down what inpired it and who or what I had in mind, while working on it.

I wish I would had done so from the beginning.

I have written the entire story down (I only gave a very brief summary of the quilt story here) and it is in my Quilt Record Book, along with a picture. My daughter bought me a book to keep a record of my quilts and it has a place for pictures of each one and a brief description, etc. I have also kept the thank yous and notes from all those who have received one of my quilts. Nice to look back through and remember all of my quilts and those who received them.
