    Me too, I could live.

    My sewing room has the same type of ceilings as yours. I have a 5 x 5 foot design wall made from foam panels covered with felt. You could do something like that as high as the knee walls. While it isn't big enough for large quilts it does give me enough space to lay out lap quilts.

    You might like to check on the internet "Vanishing Design Wall", I just purchased one, my DH installed it above the closet, and it looks like it is just a shelf, but inside there is a blind that pulls down and voila an instant design wall and your pieces of fabric stick to the fabric, you can even roll it up with your pieces of fabric on it when you are done for the day, and the next time you pull it down they are all still there in the place where you left them......
