    #2 and there can never be too much color on a scrap quilt with black. I love it.

    I like #2 best, but I like them both. A scrappy binding would be nice too.

    I'd probably go with the second one and use the scrappy binding and varigated thread for quilting. Can't wait to see this completed - so pretty!!!

    I also like the second one better. As to your question on the binding, if the border was plain I'd go with the scrappy binding. If you use your proposed insets I'd bind in plain black so not to detract from the beauty of your quilt and border.
