thanks for the complements. Yes, I did use batting. After breaking 3 needles, I bought stronger ones...size 100!

Thanks for the warm, friendly welcome and complements. Not to mention the wealth of advice here!

Yes, I did use cotton batting.

I plan to use my quilt this summer at the free concerts on the bay every week. It will be perfect for the grass.

Your quilt looks great... I have made 3 ExLarge quilts. They do get heavy. The last one I used corduroy on the back to even out the strength of the denim... I just saw it the other day and both fabrics really softened with use...The one I used flannel on needed a new backing after 7 yrs of use. And the 3rd one I used some kind of a heavy fabric, don't really remember what it was, but that it was cream color...The denim really softens up with lots of use, especially by big college boys. I put the seams to the inside and don't have to deal with the fraying in the washer. Thanks for sharing

Love how you brightened up the quilt with fabric. Great job. I made our first born a denim quilt for college, 27 yrs. ago, and it is still around. Yours will make a great "picnic" quilt, sturdy but fun. Welcome to the board from IL.
