Default Newbie to the Farmer's Wife Sampler

Well I'm finally throwing in the towel and trying the FWS blocks. I'm doing these with another group by the luck of the draw. And I'm doing the "3 Brown Bag" method. man with the week I've had all my fingers are still in the proper number of pieces. {{ rolls eyes here}} So far I have the 1st two done so without much ado:

    #4 Basketweave -- Whites
    #33 Farmer's Puzzle -- Meduim & Dark

Well there they are.... with bad points and all.

Oh yea!! I got the 3rd block done!!

This one is #56- Maple Leaf. I didn't have many issues with this one since I can do a bear paw block and smooge the "stem". Sshhh It's a secret ... .

Sure QuiltsRFun .... since for the most part I have scraps to play with, I do a "3 Brown Bag" system. I have one of each - lights, meduims & darks. Scraps are then sorted accordingly. Then for each block, figure out what combo that I want/desire and them I play "Blind Mans Bluff" by reaching in the bags to "draw" my fabrics out. Have to use what I grab..... NO Tradedies!! It can make for some unusaul mixes -- but so far I'm doing okay.

That could change with the next block or ten blocks down the road. It is also what I refer to as an "uncontrolled" scrappy situation. I actually find some people are afraid of this method so they do more "controlled" scrappies. Like in all 30's or all bakits, etc.

I'll be posting all my Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks here as I go along so everyone can take a peek as my "3 Brown Bags" method goes on.

This is going to be intersting since I don't actually know how to Paper Piece so there will be some "fudging" as I go along. So please feel free to leave comments along the way.

    Toodles,
