    Default The Rum Soaked Pirate

This quilt was made for one of my son’s best friends who likes rum, pirates, and of course the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I designed the bottle blocks, laid them out in the quilt using clipart from the internet then found the perfect rum fabric for the bottles. The black X is the logo from his fabric rum, perfect for my X marks the spot silhouette that I wanted in the quilt besides the bottles being laid out to give that effect on their own. The ship in the center ended up a little smaller than I wanted so I am going to add his gamer-tag name around it to fill the space a little more. Other than that I am happy with how it turned out.

My son and his friend stopped by recently to help me with something and the friend noticed the pattern of the pirate hanging on my wall and quietly asked what I was working on with a pirate so I told him it was a project for him. He was pleasantly surprised that I was doing something like that for him. It grew in size after I asked him what size his bed was as it was originally intended to just be a large throw. I originally told him wouldn’t be big enough to fit a king but realized I had enough fabric so it is now a 106 x 98. I’m going to start on my son’s other 2 best friend’s quilts (Star Wars & Narwhal themed) until I can figure out how I want to quilt this one. Hoping to give them to them at the same time.

Thanks for taking a look. Hope you like it.

I love how you told of the process and how much thought went into making something individually unique. Please tell how all the Applique is stitched down. Fabrics are prefect too.

In my opinion, the best quilts are those with the recipient in mind. What a perfect gift for a pirate lover. You certainly put a lot of thought and planning to make the execution perfect. He will love it and remember your talent and thoughtfulness forever.
