    Default Runner or art quilt?

I made this table runner because I did not want to cut the fabric, because I really love it. Since the background is black, I used black thread to quilt it, using a walking foot. I did curvy lines and spaced the stitching with the edge of the foot, about 1/4 inch. The close seams and curves gave it lots of texture and dimension. The back is a repurposed tablecloth. The fabric is from Andover fabrics and is based on an original textile by Kathy Hall that was displayed at Museum of New Mexico Museum of International Folk Art. It is called Tree of Life. After I finished it and studied it, it seems to want to be an art quilt instead of a runner. I need to ponder some more.

Really pretty fabric.... I like that you just quilted it and left the fabric whole. Not sure what you mean when you consider "art" quilt. Does that entail cutting it up?

Hang it up on the wall and look at it for a while. It is pretty!

Do you have a place to hang it? IMHO think it would make a great wall hanging. Laying it flat would not show fabric pattern and dimensions from quilting. GREAT job!

It's so pretty, I think it needs to hang on a wall rather than lay on a table where things would get put on top of it. You did a beautiful job with it.

I also think it would be lovely as a wallhanging. It would show that lovely fabric to great advantage.

That is a beautiful piece of fabric and I don't blame you for not wanting to cut it up. Great finish.

This will make a lovely runner. It would not qualify as an art quilt in any show or art displays. Making it into an art quilt would require adding a lot of embellishment, etc. etc.
