I've just been having a play with this idea in the borders of a competition piece I'm working on. I drew circles of 3/4" diameter with blue pen then using this as a centre, bounced off freehand to create the petals of a flower. Then I freehand quilted the stamens in a different colour. I got some Pentel Pastel Dye Sticks for fabric - they only cost £4.46 for a set of 15 delicious colours! They blend really nicely, I shaded in my flowers then pressed over a cloth with a hot iron. I've hand washed a sample and nothing shifted. I then plan to hand sew some seed beads in the centres... I'll post the quilt in a few days. :-D
