This quilt is for my dd who is 14. Its not my colors at all. She picked them all. Except for the one Sue block in the middle that her Great Grandmother made. It has taken me forever to finish these blocks simply because they are loud I think. Anyway I can't decide if sashings would make it look any better...DD loves it and can't wait for me to get it completely finished.....we go to pick out flannel for the back next week. And yes it will probably be the loudest flannel she can find lol!

I think I would use a black sashing. It would make each block pop! These blocks are a great blend of the old and the new. Good Job!

I like the sashing idea. To my eye (and what do I know)it would showcase each block. She's going to love it.

I think sashing would make the Sunbonnet Sues stand out more. It would separate the two ideas.
Another idea would be to rearrange the blocks. Put 9 Sunbonnet Sues in the middle. Use the other blocks as a border with the other 4 Sunbonnet Sues as cornerstones.

ooh I hadn't thought about putting the Sue's in the middle! I was looking at it this morning and decided to rearrange the blocks some as I don't like the way they are right now. I'll play around with that.

I'm thinking no on the sashing simply because of the X blocks - it would interrupt the flow unless you did some kind of cornerstone for continuity in the design.

How about lime green sashing with black cornerstones? It doesn't look loud to me, but does look like you need to define the two types of blocks. Then a 1" black border to frame it all together before you add the planned border, if you are using one. Otherwide just bind it with a wide black binding.

Your daughter will love and, surprising, you will too, when it is finished.
