    Default Ten Years on

I finally finished this quilt, made with FQ I collected on a trip to New Zealand in 2005. After deciding to use the BQ pattern to showcase large blocks of the focus fabrics, I found and HAD to use the background fabric that included NZ flowers. That meant I ordered it from New Zealand at $23 per meter plus international shipping. I originally planned to make a smaller wall hanging, hence I had 2 yards of backing fabric but I used my leftovers (some pieces were FQ, some were 1/2 meter) to make the back large enough (it is 72" square). The quilting is a pantograph called "Lynn's Fern", I wanted ferns because it is the NZ symbol. I embroidered the label and incorporated a picture taken on our trip (used for our Christmas card that year). I am very happy at how it came out and it is now hanging on a large blank wall in our living room.

That came out really nice. I love BQ patterns. You did a nice job with using up your leftover fabrics on the back. Hope you had a fun vacation. Always wanted to go there but never was able to make it.

We had a wonderful trip to your country! We were there for 3 weeks, and I wish it had been longer. I had a conference in Christchurch and was so dismayed to see the earthquake devastation in 2011 and the quaint B&B Hotel we stayed at was demolished. We saw a lot of places, staying in Auckland, Rotarua, Parparaumu, (crossed the ferry) Blenheim, Christchurch, Tepako, Dunedin, Queenstown (where the picture on the label was taken), Heast, and (to relax at the end) Hamner Springs. I would love to go back anytime! Most of the FQ squares represent an aspect of our trip. It brings back great memories!
