Interesting way to look at it. I have a book of animal blocks which look paper pieced but instead use pins to line things up. Thanks for the helpful hint! Hopefully I can use it this weekend!! Youngest daughter went back to college this week so life has been busy, but my Small World has been yelling at me to come back!

Is anyone here doing the Boho Heart Quilt Along on FB that started this past week? I have my pattern and was ready to start but due to circumstances could not sew this week - will have to catch up next week and try to get 2 weeks done.

I started looking at the Dear Jen patterns this morning. Since there are a lot of template pages, I cut the book apart and put it into a three ring binder. Way easier to make copies that way. This is the third book I've done that to, and at least this one was easy because it's only folded and stapled.

I really like the way the quilt on the cover looks, but I'm still not decided on if I want to make three of each block or go a different route. I don't really want to end up with a 90 x 90 quilt. . .
For those working on this pattern, how are you doing that - just one block or making sets or what . . .

I also like the layout that gives the medallion look with square of light or dark blocks - and I could enhance that by doing several colors and not just light/dark . . . hmmm ideas are starting to emerge! I think I am going to use some of my KF (and similar) prints. I did that before for one of Jen's patterns, but it got too wild for me as I used them for the background also. I think if I keep to solid/TNT background it might not get so wild.

Macybaby, thanks for the suggestions about cutting the book apart. I'm going to try that, although I think I'm going to create some paper pieced blocks from the book next. I hate making templates for piecing as mine never turn out very accurately.

I am making the three block layout using mostly unbleached and tea-dyed muslins as my backgrounds. I have been incorporating our local guild's blocks of the month into my quilt, so it's really "Dear Marianne" at this point. I just finished appliqueing the Dear Jen blocks with circles and have to finish that strip. This is definitely a long term project for me!

MKotch - I ditto MacyBaby's idea to put the pages into a 3 ring binder. I wish I had thought of that for Small World - so much flipping!

I hit a little bit of a slump as I usually do this time of year. For some the winter weather gets the inside quilt making going at full speed, for me I just want to be wrapped in a quilt reading! To get out of the slump I worked on the sky for my Small World (mindless but needed to be done). That got me going again and I was then able to finish Asia/South America/the rain forest. Notice the small rain clouds in the sky over the buildings!

I'm in the middle of the city panel (the city is a jungle!) and when that's complete I'll show the whole quilt again. I can't believe after the city I'll only have the hills to do. I've definitely gotten better at working with the smaller pieces. My last set of pinwheels in the city have some super sharp points! (super proud moment)

This is a great section....the clouds look cool and the animals in the windows are so cute...the ant eater and camel cracked me up.....so clever..... can’t wait to see the whole thing...

Below is the last full section - the City is a Jungle! This was great fun to do, lots of good jungle animals having a good time.

Then I attached it to the other panels and the only piece left to do are the hills. Hopefully this weekend I'll get to work on those.

I have to give credit for a lot of my fabric to the Birthday Candy Swap. We exchange 50 2.5 inch cuts of fabric throughout the year - you receive your pieces on your birthday. My first year there were 35 participants (1,750 different fabric squares!) and last year 24 (1,200 squares). In my South America/Asia you can see all the different fun colored animal prints - those were from the swap. Also, lots of other pieces especially in the sky and grass were also from that swap. This years swap is open to new participants until February 20 if you want to join in the fun! It's a great swap if you like scrappy quilts.

Now the big question - how am I going to quilt it!???!!!??

Irish....this is really amazing!! So creative. It’s turning out so cool...love it! Others who have made this pattern will likely come along and offer suggestions on the quilting. I’ve seen some fantastic designs...not sure if there are pictures of completed pieces on this thread or just the the tops but may be worth a look for inspiration.
