Neither of my FW machines will wind a bobbin evenly. The bobbin winders seems to be working correctly, but the thread builds up more on one side of the bobbin than the other. Is there some sort of an adjustment to correct this problem? Is it the bobbin, machine, or the operator at fault?

use your finger to guide the thread.

What Miriam said, or adjust the thread tensioner / guide on the bed at the base of the pillar. By moving it left or right away from the side it builds up on you can usually hit a spot where it will fill evenly.

not all that complicated... I was forgetting it had a tension type guide. I'm thinking the Spartan or maybe some of the 99s just have a little guide and you can't do much with those.

Even the ones with the "S" shaped guides can be adjusted right or left to help center the thread in the bobbin. I've played with a few of them from 99s to 66s and others and got "most" of them to fill centered.

I get more great info that I did not know before by reading this Vintage and Antique column. I could google all day and never learn as much as I do here. This piece of info I am sure will be useful in my future old machine usage. Thanks for asking and answering.
