(Which is also a fun song by Cheryl Wheeler which could be the anthem of this board :-) )
Antique Sewing Machine
Very close to my house.
Turned out to be one of those aluminum New Process Kenmore's in a cabinet for $45
I passed
But there was a Dayton universal foot control "new" in the falling apart box sitting off to the side.
It didn't have a price on it.
So I took it up front and found that they wanted $20.
That seemed like an eBay price to me. I passed.
Would you have paid $20 for it?

Some estate sale companies put really high prices on things while others are more reasonably priced. I've had good luck at many in my area but north of me 40 miles the prices are outlandish. So, you really have to go to enough to find the dealers that are fair. My DH thinks that the dealers that have high prices are just trying to keep the good stuff for themselves or their own shops. I don't know if that's true but what do they do with the stuff that doesn't sell? I'd like to know.

Foot Controller
Unless you really want an antique foot controller to complete a machine, you should look at Sew-Classic.com for a new electronic controller. It won't get hot as the old ones and will be a pleasure to use. For a small fee they will even wire it for you. I love mine. Should have replaced the old one sooner. Ask Jenny for assistance on their website. Very helpful. Reasonable pices and ship fast from Ohio.
