I got my second Featherweight recently. It joins my first, a black 1950 model, 3
301's (all mocha, 2 short bed and 1 long bed), and my grandmother's 1928 66-6
(plus various non-Singers).

The new one is a 1948 model and it is a repaint. A lovely purple metallic. I
know many don't care for repainting a FW, but judging by the condition of the
case, it was probably cosmetically challenged. It was a great deal and came
complete, runs beautifully, and it makes me smile to look at it.

One issue, the bobbin winder wheel comes off and is almost impossible to wind a
bobbin. It looks like they took it apart to paint the arm. Anone suggestions to
get it to stay together? Would a bit of JB Weld work? Thanks for any help.

Sorry I can't help you with your bobbin winder issue, but I LOVE that purple FW. To die for. I would buy it too if it was reasonable enough. Hope you enjoy sewing on her. Maybe you could call her "Lilac."

Does the wheel unscrew or does it fit on a smooth shaft?

I just looked at ours and it appears it's a press fit on the shaft. In either case, I'd suggest a trip to your local auto parts store for some RED Loctite. Get some Denatured Alcohol too. Clean the inside of the wheel and the shaft with the Alcohol then "VERY CAREFULLY" put one drop of the Loctite on the inside of the wheel and slide it on with a twisting motion. You'll only get one shot at it. You DO NOT want to get any Loctite inside the arm. If you do it's gonna be glued there for eternity or till you heat it with a torch.

Well, that's what I'd do anyway.

Hi Joe, mine is press fit also. I think they took it off to paint and loosened it up just a bit so it won't stay on. The Red Locktite sounds like a good choice, I'll go look for some this weekend. I already have denatured alcohol and thought I should clean it first. Thank you for the advice. I haven't had this issue before.

Kitsey: I found it on craigslist for $140. The ad had just been posted and jumped on replying that I wanted it. The ad said her name is "Laverne" but I havn't decided if I will change it. I told the seller that she would know me when I drove up in a purple truck; my husband says it is "just you" (he enables my collecting). I took her to a quilt class last weekend and she sewed beautifully (and got a lot of notice among all of the original black machines).
