Vintage machine sighting - sort of
We are in Budapest and were walking on a narrow street this am. Coming toward us was a young couple and he was holding a bentwood case that was ajar and as they passed I could see the base of a black machine. It had a white cord sneaking out too. My family thought I was a little wacko going on about seeing a sewing machine - if not for the language barrier and having to meet someone at a scheduled time I would have asked to see it. Son said "here we are on a great trip and what Mom is going to write in her journal is that she saw an old sewing machine". Sounds about right.

Nothing wrong with that. I never used to pay much attention to furniture when I walked into antique/junk shops. Now I can zero in on a machine or cabinet. DH looks at me like I'm nuts. Anxious to hear about your trip when you get back. Hopefully, you get to see some quilts.

Old woodworking machines, old hand tools, sewing machines and accessories, etc. I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for this stuff. It doesn't matter where or when. I don't see anything unusual in spotting an old sewing machine case and wanting to see what's inside.

Remember to go in the stores called Burda! You will never see so many back issues of BurdaStyle ever again. And to be honest the instructions are not that much more unreadable in Hungarian.

I have been in Budapest, isn't it a lovely city ? My grandparents were Austria-Hungarian and my grandmother made Hungarian food. When I was there, goulash was served for dinner one night and I was so excited that it was the same as I make. I loved that city and especially over the river with the baths and massages !

Yes it was a wonderful visit. We saw both sides- Buda and Pest. The food was fantastic everywhere - even in the smallest street cafes. And the goulash was delish. We are heading to Vienna now
