That's a great looking machine, and I hope that you can get it up and running. As chips88 said, the cabinet alone is worth what you paid. Great deal.

I think you gave me some good suggestions when I cleaned up a 66-16 I rescued from the farmhouse my mom grew up in. Where does one get Tri-Flow?

There are several plunger type parts that need oil. If they get stuck the ZZ won't work right. There are a couple places that need grease rather than oil.

I you have a manual follow the lube and oil chart in it. If you don't have one you can download a free .pdf manual from Singer.

The 500 is a great machine as is the 401. We have one of each and my wife claims the 401 while I claim the 500. When I need some ZZing done I usually grab the 500.

Sew-classic http://www.sew-classic.com/ sells Triflow. Also bicycle shops usually carry it. I have also found it in the automotive section of my local hardware store.

Nice score on your new, old sewing machine.

I looked for Triflow products at a couple of sewing stores and at a bike shop to no avail. But later found the oil is in all of my local hardware stores, either in auto or general lubricants. The grease is another matter -- can't find it locally. I ended up getting it from Sew Classic.

You stole dat, lol. They are easy to resell. I sold mine back at Christmas to a newlywed who wanted one because she remembered her mom used to have one like that. The Rocketeers have kind of a cult following with the people who like Midcentury Modern decor, and / or the Hispsters. So you were wise to snatch it up.

It took me about 8 hours to refurbish the last one I did.

I am SO in love with these. I have two. neither working (yet)! One without a motor, and one with one that doesn't work. I am stalking one on c/l, but the asking price is way too high ($125).

I am happy for you, and terribly jealous! ;0) both!
