I am not sure what kind of wood it is.

Do you know what type of wood was used for the base? Someone told me walnut, but not sure that is right.[/QUOTE]

If that were my machine, I would name her Twiggy. She's a beaut!

Are you able to read the last date on the plate? Is it May, 15, 1876? My plate is identical (except for the serial number), but I can't make out the last digit in the year (it's either a "5" or "6")?!

I'm working on mine in the garage, too! Right now I'm trying to clean the cast iron base (it's caked with rust and grime)!

ltamere, A year ago I was trying to help. Last night I picked up a cousin. Not nearly so nice as yours, No Shuttle and no bobbins, but I maybe have some kicking around. Also missing bits off of the bobbin winder Mine has the stitch length behind the pillar. The good news is that it is starting to clean up and it is moving fairly smoothly.
