i found this at a yard sale recently and bought it on spec. i knew it was missing the plate and the belt was shredding. the cabinet needs refinishing. that's all i knew. when i got it home i researched the serial number and traced it to scotland, 1953. then i started looking for the missing parts online. good luck! :hunf: i emailed singer and after a week, i'm still waiting to hear from them.
i got in touch with billy and he's send me the missing pieces.
it runs like a charm and the gold decals are perfect. even the light still works.
it was never a treadle and although i have four treadle bases (two of them singer one something else, and another with an gorgeous original cabinet on it which doesn't count) i won't make it into a treadle.
not bad for $10.00 + the parts.

The red fluff is the oil wick for your shuttle. You put a bit of oil into it and it slowly wicks over to where the shuttle goes by. Oops I just see this is a bobbin loading machine not a shuttle. Still looks like an oil wick to me, probably to lubricate the bobbin race.
