My count is going down. Sold three, so I'm at 19. That includes a modern serger, a 1970s Singer, and 1963 New Home that needs 4mm brushes. Love the handcrank, just don't use it much. Now I only want 201s, 15-91s, and an occasional orphan that needs work and parts. Ya'll are my heroes.

Of course, we turned our living/dining room area into our sewing room back in 2010, so that helped. And, we have at least one sewing machine in every room of the house except the tiny kitchen. Both bathrooms have sewing machines in them, including a matching Singer cabinet and stool in one.
Yea. I have both an addiction and a collection, but it sure has been fun!
But, to my credit, there are two auctions nearby today that have multiple sewing machines listed in them, and I’m not going to either one of them. (At least, I’m not planning to.....)

Gee, I have three old ones, 1910,1911,1951 201-3, 1977 Kenmore, 1997 Kenmore 19000 emboridery, brother and babylock 3 thread serger and Janome 4 thread. Would have more but no place to put them so try not to look.
I can't even think about 40-60. My husband has way to many of his toys, but I quit. Love seeing the ones people on here find and buy.

I probably have between 50 - 60 machines and yes I feel I have too many. Am thinning slowly as I find good new homes for some. Will be giving some to a thrift shop to resell because shop supports a great charity. Will be keeping probably more than DH wants but he's an enabler.

This is tuff, glad to hear those with lots feel like giving back. It's in our western culture to want want want. I and I'm sure a lot of you, love to find great treasures at cheep prices and if we have to fix them up sometimes thats part of the draw.
I'm at 5 machines and I know that's my limit, although I'm always on the lookout for featherweights at cheep prices, as I would like to start giving them to my family as presents. I think the really fun stuff is the accessories you might find in the drawers of old machines. Sterling thimbles, old oil cans, wooden spools and other vintage notions. So those are what I look for now. Even though I don't need them. I think more on terms of resale now.
I do think the person who did the post about their attachments has a bit of an addiction. There are just so many that you can't keep track of what you have there's no way you can use it all and it becomes hoarding. Just my 2 cents no insult intended.
Some things I like to keep in mind when I do find things that I HAVE to buy.
Can I afford this?
Can I use it? Will I use it?
Can I sell it? Can I gift it?
Do I really need this???? that is the final question I always ask myself. A house full of clutter is no use to anyone. I love to see people use their collection, have it on display nicely and have the best of the best. No use keeping stuff that is not the best, especially if you have alot of it.
I hope people don't read my post the wrong way, I have a collecting problem, these are the strategies and questions I use to try to keep myself in check.

I have 23...I think. Only two are parts machines. I only started this foray into vintage machines this Sept! I call them inventory because it sounds more like a hobby than an addiction. Things like this> keep happening to me, so my inventory keeps growing. I purchased one yesterday on the fly. A little thrift/junk shop on the way home said SALE all sewing machines $5.00. Well, I just had to check it out. I saw one that looked promising so I pushed it, it weighed a ton, I lifted up one side of the case top and peeked inside, it still had the motor and was fairly clean and was a Riccar so I snagged it.
I brought it home, was going to start removing parts as I really wanted the motor but it looked very clean, almost new in fact, so I borrowed a few parts from other machines, tested it and, Viola'. A beautiful machine that can be rehomed as soon as I give her a bath she will clean up spotless like new. Wasn't expecting it to turn out so nice
