Default Another 99K question?

Am I seeing a oil wick in the bobbin area of my 99k? I can see some bright red that looks like fabric in there.
Don't want to pull anything out thats suppose to be there.
Thanks Dixie

I'm pretty sure that's what it is - I had the same machine, and that seemed to oil the hook.

I'm glad you didn't pull the little red thing out.. I thought it was a big piece of lint, and tried to pull it out.. It wouldn't budge.. I'm glad it didn't.. I now put oil in it, and my Singer 66 hums.. I guess I couldn't pull it out because it was dried up with oil in it..

It is an oil wick. If it is dried up you can replace it if you like.

Thanks! I too am glad I didn't pull it out. I have seen them in older machines but was surprised by the bright red colour.

Miriam, how do you know if its dried up? I have been soaking the machine in oil so I don't know what to look for in a dried up wick.

Yes it is an oil wick. Give it a few drops of oil every now and then.

If it is hard as a brick and not absorbing oil or disintegrating or not touching the piece it should be lubricating you need to change it out.
