Default Badged?

When talking about sewing machines, what does "badged" mean?

ln a long history of sewing machines, there have been manufacturers who would put whatever name on a machine you wanted if you bought large quantities. Sears machines from the get go have always been made from someone else, so if you read Minnesota, or Damascus and tons on other machines it take more research to figure out who made the machine. When Japanese clones came across the Pacific it felt like they changed names at random and rapidly. Trying to figure out when one of those machines was built and who built it is a huge effort that is often thwarted.

My favorite example of badging in the auto industry was a Buick (American)- Opel ( German) Sprit of America made in 1976.
