Does anyone have any thread suggestions to use for a singer 99-13? I'm using gutermann and it's doing well. Are there any other less expensive threads that I can achieve perfect tension top and bottom with? Thank you!

When you compare how much thread is on a spool of Gutermann, it really isn't that expensive. Coats and Clarks seems less expensive, but that's just because there's less thread on a spool. Gutermann 100% cotton or 100% polyester threads are both good. I also like Mettler Silk-finish 100% cotton thread and Metrosene 100% polyester. I've never been able to achieve a balanced zig-zag stitch with Coats and Clarks, but will use it for straight stitching.

I use mostly Aurafil. I've used it on my new machines and on my vintage machines with no problems and not a lot of lint.
