Default Choosing the right belt

My vintage Kenmore cleaned up nicely. Photo below is before the clean up, and I just love this machine but with the first crank of the wheel the belt broke, very brittle with all of the wrap? coming off.

It measures 14" and is wider on the bottom than at top. Is this a V belt? Should I try another V belt, a lug belt or a stretch belt? I have been researching and am finding lots of differing opinions. Do they stretch much? If it now measures 14" was it 14" to start with?

Thanks for any help

Yes, that is a V-belt. I'd go with a V-belt if you can, though I have used lugged belts with no problems. I'd stay away from the stretch belts, except as a last resort.

Where is the motor located? If you can adjust the motor position to adjust the tension of the belt, you could probably go with a 13-7/8" belt.

Thanks for answering, yes we can adjust the motor position. I wondered why it had 4 washers under each screw Now I know why they were there. I will start with the 13-7/8 belt.

Than you so much.

It looks real nice! you might even find 13-5/8 will work on the belt length...

Just wanted to say that's a beautiful machine, and it's in my very favorite color of all times!

Thanks ladies, I find that I am drawn to the blue machines also. We should start a "SEW BLUE CLUB" thread. LOL
