Default Davis Vertical Feed not feeding

I have a wonderful Davis VF that is no longer walking. I removed the front cover and see the spring laying inside. It does not appear to be broken, but I may be missing a screw. The local machine repair shop told me to check in here to see if anyone has 'parts'.
I don't think I need a spring, but I'm not 100% certain how it sits in the machine either.
Can anyone help me?

Welcome and congratulations on VF. I don't have one, but there are a few links that might help and from my understanding there is a Davis VF group on Facebook. At Davis Vertical Feed Treadle Leon posted a picture of two springs in the face plate.

From Davis VF1 (New High Arm) treadle 1885-1886 there is also a spring between the foot bar and presser bar.

I also did a search for Davis VF "compression spring" faceplate and found a thread on another forum that might be helpful, but didn't see a picture like Leon's.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post.

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

Thanks Janey.

Welcome aboard MZJim

for some reason I also took a pic of the other side needle bar at the same time. Probably not helpful, but you might like it.'

Sorry, I don't check email or get online that often these days. I did take a look at all the pics and will attach a couple here. I'll take a look and probably join the facebook group.

Spring I'm looking at is not really visible unless it falls out, and it does go behind the presser and foot bar. I'll upload the picture of that as well, just look to where the orange marker tip is pointing as that's where it goes.

The spring I'm talking about is in the second image.
