Default Davis Vertical Feed Treadle

I just acquired a Davis Vertical Feed treadle sewing machine and I can't find the serial number. Anyone have any information about these machines?

Hi Sheila, I have heard of these but don't know that I have seen one. Would you be able to post a picture? There are people on here that know your machine, someone will be able to help you.

The nice thing about this machine is there are no feed dogs. I love doing quilt bindings with mine as the foot feeds similar to a walking foot. The needle moves forward, goes down into fabric, then moves backward to make a stitch.

You are in luck, those vertical feeds are few and far between, I shall probably never see one. There was a thread on another forum a few days ago, very good tips for what to check and to get in running smooth again.

They're not something we see every day here in the US but they're not rare. There's several folks over on Victoriansweatshop forum who have one.

No, the cord is just for an add on light. I got lucky on that find. Had to travel a bit, but not bad.

If you have a later one, it will take "singer" size needles, if you have an earlier one, it will take the Davis long needle. when Davis started making machines that took the short needle, they often put that information right on the front slide - with a life size needle imprint showing the exact size of the needle.

I'm not sure if Davis still put the serial number on the front slide when the switched to putting the needle size on the front slide. I have a later model that takes the shorter needle.

This is mine - I think it may be the last model of the VF Davis made.
