Featherweight decision....HELP!!!

I would say keep looking. I think up to $200-$250 for one in decent shape, black, running, maybe some feet, maybe a booklet, with good decals and a decent case.

So...do I settle for less, buy a cheaper one with flaws (in condition, not performance) and just be happy to have one, or forget it, or raise my limit to an uncomfortable level???? Or keep looking???

I was not sure I wanted a FW or not as really is not needed for me. But after looking at Craigslist I found one locally for a good price (under $100) and went for it! Now I am glad I did. I enjoy quilting and handwork so much I just wanted a piece of history really. Mine works great and I plan to make a quilt using just the FW this winter. Keep looking and stick to your budget. It is true the prices are coming down.

Wait and keep looking as others have said. A friend of ours cleans out old houses occasionally so I asked him to keep an eye open for one. Brought me one in pristine condition and asked for $25 for it. I gave him $45 and then had the happy opportunity to make him a baby quilt with it just this past winter.
Not sure your budget but I did just post that there are 2 FW's for sale relatively near to me...a black one they are asking $150 for (I think) and a white one for $500. The black one should really go for less as it appears the pedal has been replaced with a non-original style and the (CL) poster says there are paint repairs on the bed. Look for the post 'FW's for sale' and see if this might be to your liking. NAYY

My budget is 250 to 300. I could spend more, but feel that is all I should invest in a FW. The "one" I really want is in excellent condition, looks like it has lived its life in the closet is priced at 400. He won't budge because it is a fundraiser for a church.
There is a guy nearby that specializes in FW. He sells about 65 to 75 each year! The one he has that is in acceptable condition is 350! So in NC the prices seem to be going up not down!!!
The CL posting I went to see yesterday said "mint condition". It was in the worst shape of any I have seen!!! She came down to 175! No scroll work left on the bed. Bad marks where someone used masking tape as a seam guide, the belt needs replacing, it would need new feet, the replacement cord is beige and it sewed really slow. So I said no thank you!
I will keep looking or try and wear the 400 down to 350! :)

The Fw has a way of finding you! Keep looking! There are some waiting for that special person. Did you know that you can replace the scroll on the plate. If you find one that needs a little work, it can benefit you to have it "renewed" . But get it at a good price.
