The legend says that the problem is that Singer made the firearm to the same standards that they made their sewing machines. That meant these are significantly tighter tolerances and more expensive to make so they could not turn a profit with the govt.

I have NO evidence to back that.

Wish I could get in on that sale. That many machines that quickly, there should be some great deals. Not to mention several lifetimes worth of thread and fabric.

Just in case anyone missed it, my "shoot turtles" comment came from the provenance letter that is with the Singer pistol.
