Default The thrill of the hunt 301

I have been looking for a cheap 301 for a couple of years. I knew where I could find some for "not bad" prices. Another enthusiast and I were discussing them Saturday. She is frugal also. Today I hit a thrift on my lunch hour. Interesting aged cabinet and chair. Top was closed. Price on it made me guess 60s zig zag, maybe plastic inside. Lifted the lid. Whoa, back side looks like a 301. Yeppers. Short bed flip up.
Mine mine mine screams my brain. Now I'm in full defense mode to get the get the sale tag to the counter. Paid for it. Got my screwdriver from the car to liberate the head. A woman was looking at it.
Whew, a few moment difference and I could have lost it.

Haven't touched it yet, but it turns and has all it's bobbin bits. When I go get the cabinet tomorrow, I ll make a donation. Also got a pair of 68 Charger wheel covers.

1951 but no centennial badge. I don't care. Somebody is excited.

Looks just like mine. Does it have an early serial #? Mine is half way through the very first run NA005xxx. It's also a thrift store find.

Very nice find. Have you checked http://singer301.com/dating/default.html The closer SNs for the 301 can be found at the bottom of that page.

By-the-by have you been able to find TR-3 near you lately?

What a happy find! I got mine sort of that way but in a case. I found my featherweight table by accident in a good will for. $7 and some odd amount of change. I love finding gems like that!!

I appreciate you sharing your finds! I can live vicariously (already found my bargain 301, but mocha not black). I need to stop collecting! But I just can't resist a great machine when under $30! I pick up two more this weekend. Must. Stop. Somehow!

Got the cabinet, the stool with storage space, the cradle. Plugged it in and the jabber thing goes up and down

serial is NA065xxx so Nope, not one of the earlies. Really uncertain as to when it was made. It's got bits of fuzz everywhere.
Haven't gone looking for TR3 yet. When I'm in the parts store I'm always after parts.

I think I can improve on this.
