Default Help Please with rescued Singer 648

    Hello,
I rescued a Singer 648 today from a Restore. I have her oiled and taken apart. The receptacle where the power cord is to be inserted has three prongs. It looks like it should have four prongs. Can I replace one prong? Where could I get one? Do I need to replace the whole brown plastic receptacle? Where can I get one? I have new feed dogs and a power cord/foot controller on their way. I appreciate any help!

If you can post a pic it'll aid in getting correct info. It's hard to guess what crazy things may have been done to been done to a machine.

Here's a link to the singer parts chart for your machine.

    Good luck,

I have a 648. I'll take a look at mine later this morning and let you know what I find.

The 600 series use a bunch of different plugs and I'm pretty sure some of them have an "extra" hole in the plug that doesn't have a matching prong on the machine. I don't have that exact model but do have a machine plug has an extra hole that doesn't have a corresponding prong on the machine and works fine. I'm glad Rodney has that model to double check. I think that if you look closely at the holes in the plug that the hole that doesn't have a matching prong is shaped a tad different than the other three.

Rodney, I forgot to mark which wire goes on which post. Can you check that too. Thanks Amy

Sorry for the delay. I just had a look. Three prongs is correct. Mine has a white wire and two blacks. The white goes to what would be the bottom right prong when viewed from outside. The short black wire with the blue cover goes to the upper right prong. The other black wire goes on the lower left.
    I hope this helps.
