Hinges
I've noticed there are different kinds of hinges for attaching the sewing machine, some for the bentwood cases, some for tables and some for boxes. Why are some lollipop hinges longer than others?
What are they made of? Some appear to be copper and some steel but I have some that are your standard looking copper ones but the heads are dull grey. Is that corrision? Is it something I can clean off?

Christy,
The stamped ones are steel. The lolly pop ones I've run across have all been steel too. The copper colored coating is some sort of plating. I've had a few of those that were rusted. They cleaned up OK in Evapo-Rust and still worked OK.
The grey ones are I believe aluminum. I don't think they're steel or brass.

I was looking carefully at some here and the leg parts are very coppery looking and magnetic, but the "pop" circle at the top isn't magnetic at all. It must be made of something different.
