Default How to read the plate? Please help!?

I've swapped out my singer 99-13 plate for this graduated plate. Excuse my ignorance but what does 2 3 4 5 6 7 mean? Any help is very much appreciated!

Did you measure from the needle hole to the lines? On lots of machines, they are the lines to use to keep your fabric lined up for whatever seam width you have chosen.

I found the answer on an Amazon page for the plate with those markings. The question was "What is the distance of the markings?" The answer was "Markings are in 1/8" increments."
Therefore from the needle to the markings the measurements means
2 = 1/4"
3 = 3/8"
4 = 1/2"
5 = 5/8"
6 = 3/4"
7 = 7/8"
