My advice is to start slowly and cheaply; it sounds as though you are new to machines, and WELCOME to this wonderful place! However, you can very quickly amass a big collection, so for now, don't be in a hurry. Learning about the machines is half the fun. Watching the ads, seeing people's posts here about their restorations etc. There will be plenty of machines to come, so if you are still brand new at it, don't feel the need to buy something that you don't yet know about. Just a well meaning opinion. :-)

(I am also fairly new to all of this.)

thank you for the advise. the problem with this hobby is every time i see a new old machine i get so excited and want to grab it at once and work on it. since i am a newbie i always bug the members from this forums (as they are the experts). i know, that's so selfish of me. so now what i will do is : i will just try to relax, take a deep breath, digest, learn and be wise about it. thanks again and HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

Methinks most experts want to and enjoy being "bugged" and would talk your ear off if given a chance. The best way to learn about a certain machine is to own one and use it so buy if within budget and the spirit moves you. Even many seasoned experts get "Daffy" when that long looked for machine is within reach or even just sighted.
