And if you were in a sewing machine store in Stratford, and really were interested in the machine, I'd go back and talk to the owner or the machine repair fellow. I would think that perhaps the young woman was trying to make a sale and really isn't quite up on the prices of the different vintage machines. Make an offer. If it's reasonable, and you have prices from the Internet to back it up, you may make a deal That's what I do!

She quoted us what we thought was an absurd price considering it was a "donation" and also the cabinet had a huge gouge in it ...but having spent some time just now looking for even a picture of a green Singer of this type I am wondering if this is an unusual machine????

anyone have any information to offer on small green Singers?

(definitely not a Featherweight and not the same pale green as a FW)

Thanks!

I sewed for years on that machine and loved it but when I retired that one bought a Bernina and enjoy it more. My version of the Singer had only a straight stitch but sewed well. If you want more stitches or needle down (which I consider absolutely essential to a quilter) you may need another machine. I had a featherweight but sold it to another quilter as I like a heavier machine in a steady sturdy case. I use my machine, only the one all the time, and do not do machine quilting except on wall hangings or smaller art quilts. The bed sized I send to a long arm quilter for quilting. Hope this helps.

Hi Lynda - i live in Mitchell.... and also have property down in Chatham-Kent.... and we also have a trailer (Airstream but we don't park it anywhere) sounds like you are pretty close!
the store was on Oxford in London, I was on my way to St Joe's for some tests. The (older)woman in the store phoned someone(husband or partner maybe) and they discussed the price....and this was after she had told us that it had been given to them on saturday afternoon and they hadn't even looked at it by the time we came in Monday morning....I told her I wouldn't pay even half what they were asking and that I look at machines on Kijiji daily...then we went on our way.

We did swing by the warehouse in Stratford on our way home(hubby works there PT) and I was wandering around looking at the machines while he did whatever he needed to do...Yes! they do charge way too much for most of the machines but he has "rescued" a couple of them...and we both go to the auctions!

as it turned out someone is giving me an "old heavy green thing" LOL that he will pick up on Saturday..can't wait to see what it is and what condition it is in :-)

So where in Perth County are you? I'm in S.W. Ontario too!

If you were at the Antique Mall in Stratford, I do find that the vendors for those different booths really think their machines are worth much more than they really are. But someone will pay the price if they want it badly enough. Vintage Singers up here seem to be way more expensive than in the States, but there are some good buys on Kijiji if you wait long enough

I have one I got for $50 at a quilt show. It works perfectly, but is loud and heavy, but because it's green, it's adorable and I'm keeping it. You never know - both of my other machines might need repairs and at least I'd have a workiong machine!

Seems high to me. I definitely prefer my totable Janome2007. It keeps me so happy and I do have one of those Bro Disnesy 4000 or 4001. Got it repaired rec ently and still prefer the Janome.
