Default The Minnesota Nightmare - model A

Here is the nightmare Minnesota model A... Honestly... I bought it from a shadey person and how it was left out in the elements and proudly saying it was his grandmothers.. I wanted to slap him... But I have named her Margret after her and promise to do something...

Shirley, I am sorry for your woes. Had you bought it sight-unseen based on photos? Did you not have a chance to see it before taking it, or was it delivered to you? I don't want you to feel bad about it, but I am just wondering what went wrong so the rest of can have ideas as to how not to get hooped in the future.

Anyhow, you seem to have a lovely collection, and I am very sorry you lost some $ (but more importantly, your effort to come!) on this machine. That said, I am sure you've acquired a great many winners over the years, and maybe it balances out a bit!

After seeing it, I was omg.... how could someone sit gram out on the front porch to rust... so I decided she needed love.. and beings that I am now having a hankering for treadles, I could not leave it... Call me a sucker if you will....

Actually, I don't think she looks that bad. Use some Murphy's oil soap and or furniture oil and clean up the iron work then some black rustoleum paint, give her a good lube job. I think she'll be ok. Then maybe some new hardware to coordinate with what's appropriate for the period. Some mechanical maintenance to make her work like she should. Should be good to go after that.

I'm agreeing with Steve. From what little I can see, the pics are too big for my dial-up to download, the machine and cabinet is not in that bad a shape.

Clean it, service it, make what ever repairs are needed and use it. A machine that old should not be condemned because it's not perfect.
