I recently bought a FW - according to the serial # and the Singer site, it was made in 1941 - so she is named Pearl. I've done very little sewing with it, but it certainly purrs along nicely.
I happened to mention to my DH that I'd really like one. It had never occurred to him that I might want an "old" machine - He knew someone that lived just about 4 blocks from us that "has about 50 of them". I made a quick phone call and a quicker visit and bought Pearl. It seems to be in perfect condition - only problem is that the cord from the machine to the foot control doesn't quite reach the floor from the table I use to sew.

I just received my 221 featherweight that I bought on Ebay and I am so proud of her. I named her after my mother who passed away last year, My 221 is named Emma. I know I will enjoy sewing on it. Is there a 221 club or blog some where on line?

Would you believe that the same latch on mine is missing!?!
I love mine, I haven't used it in two years though, it needs a new belt but I haven't had the money for it at the same time that I was thinking about it. I do hope you know what this addled brain is trying to say?

I also put a luggage strap on mine for transport because I don't want to take a chance on it opening while carrying.
Thanks for the site. I'm going to check into getting a new lock for her.

That is funny. One of my featherweights has that same short cord. I bought it from the original owner and she said it hadn't been shortened. The cord is sooooo short.
