My new obsession

My new obsession
I have recently become interested in Featherweights and would love to own one. I am not into antique shopping, so I am not likely to "run into" one for sale. I almost bought one at the Paducah show and now I really wish I had just gotten it. I just was not sure what a good price was. I have searched on E-bay since and have found several that seem to be nice. My question is this, is there a seller that anyone could recommend? I want to be sure to get a machine that has been restored and is in good shape. I am not interested in doing a lot of restoration. (maybe someday!) I want the machine to USE because of the rave reviews. Any help/ Advice would be appreciated.

I have 2.... one I bought at an auction and the other I got at an estate sale. I see them on eBay all the time but have never purchased one there..... I always like to 'see' them in person, turn the wheel, look at the condition. Did you get a card from the dealer in Paducah? Perhaps you could still contact them..... or check with a local quilt shop. There are lots of FWs out there..... and they are wonderful to use. I love both of mine.

They are precious machines. I own several because they are all different! I've adopted two through different sales and have cleaned them and oiled them. I'm looking for good homes for them. If interested please pm me.

I bought two years ago, looked on Ebay but realized that many sellers don't know anything about the machines and you really don't know what you will be getting. I searched on Google for Featherweight Sellers and found Featherweight-Poppy.com. I paid more than some on Ebay but less than some and he gave me a 1 year guarantee, totally cleaned, oiled and adjusted, sent extra bobbins, needles, extra belt and instruction booklet for maintenance. Took it out of the professionally packed box and it worked perfectly. Since I had a warranty I took it to a local specialist to see if I paid a fair price and if it needed anything. He said it was mechanically perfect and that he would have sold it for much more here in California.
Best of all you email him with what you are looking for within your price range. After giving me a few choices and a few emails I adopted Shelley Ann. I didn't want an original case (too heavy and bulky) wanted a good cosmetic condition, strong motor and didn't care about the attachments. I paid a very reasonable price, got exactly what I wanted and didn't pay for things I didn't want and would never use. He even disclosed a very minor finish problem. The machine is just what he said it was and was less $ than some other sellers I contacted. I also didn't have to pay extra to fix anything it worked perfectly and still does. I believe this is the way to go. Love Shelley Ann and use it almost every day and she really "hums". Good Luck and hope you "adopt" soon.

Hi kimg,
Just last night I was perusing a site called COLLECTORS' WEEKLY. Many FWs, prices from $300.00 all the way down to $39.00. Don't know why there is such a difference in prices, they all look about the same.
