I am one of those who has sewn over straight pins all my sewing life. I have also endured the screeches of those who say not to. I do not recall ever breaking a needle on a pin. I have seen a lot of people break needles by pulling the fabric and deflecting the needle. Been sewing over 64 years.

Appearantly it’s a big no-no with a new brother machine. I sewed over a pin in a class at my sewing machine store and I thought the instructor was going to faint. I got a very serious talking-to about the dangers of sewing over pins from first her, then the owner. Surprised me as I thought it was a common practice.

Yes! I love those pins with the white heads. Flower pins are my next favorite. They're not as thick as quilting pins.
