Someone posted on some throat plates this week, so I looked in my 778 accessory box to see if I still had those parts. I found lots of strange things I've never used in there. I can't find the name or purpose for this foot. It came with the machine, I'm almost sure. However, it has no number on it nor is it mentioned in the manual. Of course, I bought this machine in the 70's, so I don't remember if it came with it or I bought it separately. I remember buying the button hole maker attachment, but don't remember any other extras.

What do you think you could do with it (yes those are rollers)?

Looks like a roller foot used for sewing vinyl and leather. Helps with even feed and non-slippage of material.

I don't know if it is the angle of picture, but it looks like that one might be for low shank.

That's what it is. I had one of those back in they day for sewing some vinyl.

no, Janey, it's a slant shank. That old 778 has had very little use in the last 40 years and still works fairly well. It has it's original gears and I'm hoping they last. I'm using it now (and one Leon sent me) for the volunteer thing I do teaching kids to quilt. (They don't know I'm a newbie.)

yes, it is a roller foot. i have several ..used as even feed for knits &/or heavy decorater fabrics. i have tried one on vinyl & it damages if i don't cover with tissue paper. i think it would probably leave marks on leather also. it's also great for flannel, velvet or any pile fabric that wants to 'move' while stitching. i've evn used it for stitching along edge of quilted quilt sandwich while attaching binding. i finish backside of binding by hand.

It is a roller foot; I have one for my Viking machine.

I learned this was the foot to use for knits - it came out around the same time that knit fabric was getting popular. This foot, along with the stretch stitches (ones that go back and forth along with side by side).

For those of us that remember the popularity of double knit leisure suits.

When we moved my Dad to assisted living, he gave my nephew all of his old leisure suits. He and his friends went clubbing in them that night. I think one was blue, one was green, one was white and the other was yellow. He thought they were so "retro".

used it many times years ago when I made the thermal backed drapes. (still have it) Glides over the rubber and plastic coating on upholstery .
