Pic of my "new" 99K

Hi sew4nin,
I don’t know if everyone is just being polite, or they didn’t notice, but I think what you have is a Singer 66-16 instead of a 99K. Same overall “look”, but a larger machine.
If you’ll give us the serial number (on the base directly below the Singer badge) we can confirm it for you. Still a very nice looking and useful machine!

the serial number is AJ156414. I will be very interested to hear what you think. I looked at so many pictures and finally decided that 99K was probably the closest. I think the first time I posted I said I "thought" it was a 99k hoping someone would be able to tell me for sure. Then I kinda forgot about trying to confirm the ID when I got caught up in taking it apart and getting it put back together. Too funny. Let me know what you think and thank you.

sew4nin,
According to the site at ISMACS it's a Model 66, one of 25,000 allotted March-15-1949.

Nice machine. With the exception of the 201-2 the 66s are in the group of machines with the largest harp.
Nice to work with, lots of room to move.

Yes, I have a 66-16 just like that, I love it and it sews so quiet and very nice stitching. The base looks great as well. My DH has built me three bases now for my collection. He is doing a great job on this. He is just learning.

My recommendation when writing this is to make it a quilting project! What an excellent way to display history, art, and keep the tradition alive. So many times, we get busy with life and those stories are lost.
Technology now allows us to take pictures, word process stories, and then print them to fabric! It wouldn't take a fancy pattern or much planning. What a great story!

Can't tell you how much I'd have given for something like that from my mother. She never sewed, knitted or crocheted. I don't know where I get my love of all that from. Just to hear her voice again would be nice. I'm sure you know how fortunate you are to have that. I agree......write that story for those that walk behind you.
