CD, nice job you did on the embroidery!

I’m going to use our 1901 Singer 27K2 Combination Handcrank Treadle machine to make them. I have my print fabric strip ready to cut into blocks, and have loaded the machine with coordinating thread to play with the darning/embroidery foot for my muslin signature block. It’s the foot #86294 that I mentioned in another thread that didn’t work too well for FMQ, but may work better for embroidering text. What a great project to give it a whirl on!

I printed out a variety of fonts on printer paper, clamped the paper into a hoop, and practiced following the letters with no thread in the needle yesterday. It went better than I thought it might. I think maybe I can do it, so I’m ready to thread it up and give it a whirl on my muslin today. Did I mention that I’ve never done embroidery of any kind before?

If my experimenting with embroidery text doesn’t turn out, I’ll make the blocks, hand-write the center block, get them sent in, and quit fooling around with the darning foot for now.

CD - I dug around and found a little foot like the one in your picture but I haven't figured out how to get it onto a machine. What is it suppose to do???

I'm not too worried about it Cecelia. I don't want to name people because there's money involved but at least one person already has sent extra and I know of at least one other that offered to help that way too. Besides I think it will fit in a flat rate box so shipping won't be bad anyway. If it turns out there's extra money it will go to Ashlea and Caleb. I'm sure they'll be able to put it to good use.
Thank you,
Rodney

I washed out on the embroidery. My foot didn’t work on my machine. What you see is hand-written permanent ink for my signature, not embroidery.

It simply replaces the needle clamp. Take your needle clamp completely off and install the foot loosely onto the needle bar like a needle clamp. Then wiggle your needle into the foot by putting the point down through the hole, grasp the needle with the other finger and thumb, slide the needle on down and then back up into the needle bar and foot/needle clamp, and tighten the foot to the needle bar like you do a regular needle clamp.

LOL. Well, that explains why it looks as neat as hand-done lettering! ;-)

I am not a part of the guru clan therefore understandably not pre-invited to participate in this care package, but I am a benefactor of Miriam's and other QB members responses, therefore I whipped this 9-patch up this morning to send along. It will be on it's way in the mail this afternoon. My blessings to Ashlea for a quick recovery.

Finally was able to load a photo.

I tried and tried to fallow instruction's. I finally found some cotton muslin. The type you"d use as a embroidery backing or lining in a garment ... Think of sewing spandex

I did get 9 patches

one of muslin

over all size at time of mailing is 9 1/4"

It should be there today ..

I'm not saying it's 9 pieces of fabric

or that the lines match up..
I did try do do something to hide the bad workmanship LOL..

Not long ago I posted photo's here of 4 /5 ? denim quilts made in aug. two were given away in aug. In doing this an online friend was giving me ideas of making a denim bag for the quilts.

on e month ago she had her 7th stroke, she calls these mini strokes. ( ya right ) so unknown to her she coached me through a bag and quilt that she will get this coming weekend along with her making a denim quilt herself . she has always sewn her own clothes and her kids but never made a quilt.

she has very limited use of her left side.. I have a huge bag of per cuts ready to go... now if I stop hurting I'll be ready to go . lol...

I sew better than this , just can't make thing fit or line up lines . Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Where gurus? We ALL have so much to learn!!! I know I learn tons around here.... But it is from everybody. Some times it is figuring out problems - other peoples or some times my own problems. Like right above. I have had that little foot around here but never knew what it was. Now I just have to figure out what it is suppose to do... There is no way that little thing can hold down any fabric. Maybe you use it with a foot, too. Surely someone out here knows what to do with it. It is a clever little foot.

No you use it just like CD shows. I have one. I tried to use it on my 201 without success. It's been talked about on the vintage Singer Yahoo group that this foot was designed for use with the FW. Haven't tried it on mine, maybe it will work better. I know they're not too common, I've seen them sell for for lots of $$.
