When I get home later I will take a pic of the back and post it. It has a light fixture but there isn't a cord connecting it anymore. It has an odd little outlet on the side part of the box that you plug the machine and light into.

That cord block is pretty standard for Japanese machines. They're used in cases and cabinets. The outlets are marked for light and motor. New lights are available but I've only seen them in black. Used blue ones come up occasionally on Ebay/Etsy/Bonanza. Another thing that is a tell for the age of your machine is the fancy face plate. Japanese machines seemed to follow closely with Singer in switching from fancy to striated face plates in the early 50s.

Sharon,

Some of those plastic lights are screwed together and can be rewired. I believe all the old metal lights can be. The current ones as sold by Sew-Classic and others are just glued together. If the wire goes bad or the switch wears out, toss and replace.

I had to put a replacement on my 202 because it didn't come with a light. In the pic above I have a Singer fish eye light on it. That was replaced by one of the current ones I described above.

I wouldn't worry too much but if you can find an older one it will complement your machine better.

Joe
