I have a half dozen + Japanese 15 clones. I've only been able to ID a few of them. Machine ....................... Manufacturer HOTHER ....................... Juki EDISON ....................... Unknown COMMODORE ............... Unknown DRESSMAKER ............... Koyo CORONADO PRINCESS .. Brother SEWMOR 202 Black ...... Unknown SEWMOR 202 Blue ........ Toyota MORSE 200 ................... Diamond Wow, I didn't know I had 8 clones ...... they must be replicating themselves while I'm not looking. There are literally hundreds of badge names with many many manufactures. Some marked their machines, some didn't. I've found those that are marked are generally of better quality than those that are unmarked. 10X, I've got to get me a machine marked "Made in Occupied Japan". I don't have one of those yet. Joe |
The only one of my clones with "Made In Occupied Japan" has it on a badge on the pillar.

"Occupied Japan" badge would indicate it made between 1946 and 1952 as those were the dates of the US occupation of Japan. One benefit of my history minor is I know odd facts, dates & trivia related to historical stuff. Not truly useful most of the time but I love history.

I too have one made in Occupied Japan. Black in color and not a 15 clone. Sews wonderfully through thick materials such as hubby's work jeans. |

in this marshall plan it was required for import to USA these ladles, sticker ect where on 87% of any given item shipped here , pottery, basket sewing machines, anything.. from the east or west.... for a 7years.
SM starting being made in Japan in 1946 for export to eh USA , but none where shipped until 1947 ( so they say) so these labels would have dated a machine between 47 to 54. The story goes these started with made in Japan , well sale were very low no one wanted anything to do with Japanese products, so the label change about hale way into the Marshall plan to made in occupied japes in hope buyers would think this meant more on the lines, That the USA won the war and had taken over japan If this is true, then one having occupied would be on the latter end of the plan. somewhere I also have one that is just made in japan on a sticker and is like the black one pic's has no feed dog drop ,, even not under the bed |
