I just noticed that your machine has a different stitch length plate on it than mine, and mine doesn’t have a light. Maybe they had two different models of this machine, for pricing choices?

jknitter - even though yours is badged "New Home" it's actually a Free Westinghouse made machine, so it will take needles, bobbins and attachments that fit the Free style machines. Older top clamp attachments for New Home will not fit.
Usually Free made the model with both names (Free and New Home) on them, and often it's easier to find manuals under the Free name - |
Thank you, CD, for the heads up on the needle. When it comes to the point of actually sewing with it, I will probably just grind down some 15x1 needles as per Bill Holman's YouTube video. It isn't likely to become a primary machine for me--I am in love with the Necchis--but I want to keep it because I really love the color and finish.

Cathy, thanks for the additional info.
I wish I had more information on where this machine came from. I found it at one of those junkyard-type places. It was being stored in a travel trailer and the woman I bought it from knew nothing about it. It just seemed like an odd machine to find in northwest Montana. We're awash in Singers here. |
I know what you mean about the history of machines. I bought a Viking 990 off ebay to have as a back up to my main machine. It was missing the footpedal, but had everything else with it. The machine had not been used - it still had the blue plastic film stuck over the needle plate, and no indication of any wear inside. This machine was made in the early 80's. DH gave it a good servicing, and it runs just fine.
I asked the seller, they said it was in a storage locker they bought, so had no idea of it's past history. |

This was at the local thrift store for $80. I didn't buy it. (I asked my boyfriend about it and he said "we collect treadles!")
