Ooops--one more. A GoodhousekeepER with interesting gridded panels (photos #9 and 10). Wonder what the 3 buttons are that look like rectangular dice?

Am I missing something here, or is this person trying to sell old plastic bobbins for 2-3 times the cost of the same bobbins new on Amazon or Ebay?

I'm guessing because the table can be used for other machines only if you leave those front brackets in. I have a table with a 401 in it and have noticed it has the front brackets. Once you remove them, you have no front supports. Many people especially those who collect prefer to have the 301 sit solo and not fill the house up with yet another table, so that makes the cradle available to sell.
Oh well. The cabinet that I had only had 2 little pieces of metal, not a whole front piece. All I would do to replicate this if I put the machine back into another cabinet that didn't have them is notch the spot that needed to be notched so everything would sit where it needed to be, bend a piece of "flat stock" - or use an angle bracket if one fit there - then drill a hole for the pin in the cradle and a hole for the screw to hold the bracket on. As Singer has shown us several times, there's more than one solution to any problem. :) |

Regarding the cradle brackets/latches:
I took some pics of the bracket latches on the #40 Queen Anne cabinet that came with the Singer 301 I'm keeping. Here's one side (no part number on this latch.) Here's the other latch with Simanco part #136413: Here's the underside view for those of you (us?) looking to duplicate these in your metal shop! Finally, here's the business end, as viewed from above. I can only assume that the cork that supports the machine is original...it looks pretty good for a tiny piece of cork that's been (at least occasionally) supporting half the weight of a 301 SM for 63 years! That's very different than the brackets I remember. I'm starting to wonder if mine was a rigged setup to begin with. Now I'm going to need to watch for another 301 in a cabinet.

Silly ebay seller! How many of you know what this really is?

Macybaby, TY! Can't make out any letters on the buttons so was thinking icons. Love that machine but I don't dare get any more (have 2) due to a packratting DH. No room. Sigh.

If it held poker chips in real life they were very small chips. I have one from my grandmother and it was always a small spool thread holder. So it it held chips what kind were they?
|
I was wrong too then. I thought it was a chip holder too.

At that price people will be able to view it for quite a while. It is in nice shape and the high price will help keep it that way though.

Pedestal Sewing Machine - that cracked me up... Yes you can view it on that nice pedestal at some little known and out of touch antique shop......

Maybe the sewing machine is in the bed and breakfast - you get to use the industrial machine while you sit on that deck and make quilts very quickly.... ya sure
|
It will be interesting to see if it is actually industrial - you know ebay sellers think that any heavy old machine is "industrial". I have some cams that I believe are for an Emdeko. They don't fit anything I have.
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
I have cams that don't go to anything either - they might as well go on an Emdeko..........

Very nice refurbishing - although the lid might be heavy:

I also think it is a poker chip holder.
If you google "vintage plastic poker chip holder" some come up that are nearly identical. My brother had a set when we were mid teens. The chips were a bit smaller than a quarter. His was more like some of the other circular styles. |

Ahahaha! You made me spit out my water! |
I think you are right. It was originally a chip holder but now the ones I see are turned into thread holders. I see them all the time in antique shops with high prices with the thread spools in them. I have my grandmother's who used it for thread. I wish I had the chips to go with it. They seem popular to vintage poker collectors. I will just keep it with her old thread in it.
