Aw too bad I feel like death warmed over after that surgery last week or I'd go rescue it...

Macybaby 06-08-2015 12:52 PM

Good thing this seller has pictures - or I'd never have figured out what it was from the title or description.

Hahaha!! "bottom holders"....definitely brings a different mental image to mind!

Macybaby 06-09-2015 07:26 AM

I got a kick out of the "tread" holder - since when I look for "thread" on craigslist, I get a lot of adds for tires with very little thread wear.

Mrs. SewNSew 06-11-2015 03:28 PM

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/zip/5069976248.html I am having a hard time matching the description to the machine I see in the pictures.

ArchaicArcane 06-11-2015 03:40 PM

eh,.. what's a number between friends? model 6 , model 66 what's the difference? Oh. That much, eh? ;)

Cari-in-Oly 06-11-2015 03:44 PM

It looks to me like they read the serial # wrong and went by the description of an industrial machine.

Twenty bucks for this....https://fortwayne.craigslist.org/fuo/5059424283.html

Rodney 06-11-2015 05:53 PM

Not bad. Looks like a White 77. They're neat machines. Independent forward and reverse stitch lengths.
Rodney

Quincunx 06-11-2015 07:17 PM

Domestic 153 I think. More rounded than the White 77. It does have cooler plates though.

Quincunx 06-11-2015 10:09 PM

"for SERIOUS INJURIES ONLY!!!"
It would not be half as funny without the caps lock just at that point.

OK, I genuinely belly laughed from that one. Good thing auto correct didn't help on the "NOT for Lookers" part too.
I've had relatively serious injuries from sewing machines but the worst ones are usually kitchen things. Grating your knuckle when anemic is NOT a good idea for instance.

I absolutely agree. My kids were always leery of whether there was any "Mom" in their hash browns, lol. That's why I got a Salad Shooter when they first came out. Best kitchen invention EVER. I'm on my third one, wore out the first two.

Holy crap! I need one of those! There's been a lot of "me" in our meals in the past too. This looks like it would save a lot of bandaids and superglue!

Glenn 06-12-2015 02:01 PM

A little extra protein in the salad is good for the kids.:D

And it's as near as to be bio-identical at that point too. :D

Macybaby 06-18-2015 07:47 AM

ok- how many things can you point out that indicate this is not an Early Antique item?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fabulous-Ear...item1c5373bf67

Looks more like someone's highschool project to me . . .

Rodney 06-18-2015 10:08 AM

Apparently "Early American" includes the 1950s or 60s at least.

It's kind of neat but I agree. It does look like a high school shop project. The glued up layers practically scream it. It's certainly not a professional piece but overall it's pretty nice. I hope they got a good grade. :)

I always wonder the story about hand made items like that that end up being sold or in a thrift store. Kind of like the vintage quilts I see on Shopgoodwill. At what point did the owners stop caring about them?

I think you'd find they didn't stop caring. The people who inherited or were gifted did. :(

Rodney 06-18-2015 01:09 PM

That's what I'm thinking too for the most part. It is sad.

SteveH 06-19-2015 11:56 AM

I should have caught the 15U portion... good eyes!

Rodney 06-19-2015 12:51 PM

None of the older 15s had the feed dog drop knob. You have to drop the feed dogs from underneath the machine.
That knob is a giveaway that it's an Asian made machine.

Naw, I just about got got with that exact decal set once before. i.e practically had my wallet open and everything. It was a complete déjà vu moment. ;)

Quincunx 06-19-2015 07:29 PM

I am sure this will make a great story for the seller once a few years go by, but for now the giggles are kind of sad.

"This is a really old Singer Sewing Machine in the original cabinet. It is in very poor condition so I would ask that you make an offer. Must pickup, no delivery" Not so bad, maybe?

It's not a Singer though.

Macybaby 06-22-2015 01:10 AM

may not be a Singer - but I'd love to get it!

That's a very early Standard rotary machine.

Don't need the cabinet though, just the machine

I like that one too - might be a nice challenge for someone with ambition -- and time on their hands. :-)

I do love fiddle base sewing machines, and, oddly, the plainer ones with lots of wear (history).

(One day...)

Rodney 06-23-2015 03:01 AM

The fiddlebase is nice. So is the New Goodrich. The lamps are just sad and they aren't as common as your average Singers either. I really hope the Franklin isn't the Scarab pattern. I like that pattern.
You might be able to salvage the machines but it's likely the spool pin holes were drilled out to accept the lamp hardware. That damage will always be there but may not be too noticeable.
There are ways to display a sewing machine as a lamp without damaging it. Put the machine on a nice wooden base with the lamp post hidden behind it. The machine can be made to function again later if the owner chooses. A lamp shade would be nice too. Those old style bulbs look cool when they're off but I still wouldn't want them shining in my eyes.

It looks like a 77 to me. They're full size machines. The proportions make them look smaller. I bought one thinking it was 3/4 size from pictures. Joe told me otherwise but I wanted to see for myself. If you find one with MG in the model number, those ones have a magnesium body. White made a Domestic model 153 that's similar except the thread path and top tension are different.
The library steps aren't bad either.
