yeah, LOTS wrong there

Mrs. SewNSew 03-24-2015 08:48 PM

Maybe it's one of those incredibly RARE fiddlebase machines with the rectangular base??

SteveH 03-25-2015 07:48 AM

"Rectangular Fiddle" Now why didn't I think of that! hehe

Macybaby 03-25-2015 08:00 AM

I have a Free VS machine that says "Long Bobbin Rotary" on the Arm - and I suppose since the bobbin does actually go around inside the shuttle, it's accurate.

SteveH 03-25-2015 08:50 AM

now that I would like to see....

Macybaby 03-25-2015 11:13 AM

The machine -

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psp1twxjzt.jpg

And the attachment box that came with it. Most of the boxes like this just have "attachments" or "rotary" on them.

SteveH 03-25-2015 11:17 AM

I see, I was imaging a long bobbin spinning around where a standard round vertical bobbin would be....lol

Macybaby 03-25-2015 11:44 AM

no, just a regular VS machine that someone decided to get creative with Marketing. I imagine the "rage" was getting away from VS into the "new" rotary machines (though they'd been out for years and years already).

You know how it goes, someone heard about the new Rotary machine so and so had - but being 1920's-30's, they really had no idea what it looked like - just a word to go by.

Quincunx 03-25-2015 08:12 PM

This one is also creative in the difference between one bobbin type and the other. I have no idea where to start. It has both kinds of slide plate.

Macybaby 03-26-2015 07:02 AM

That would be an interesting one to see in person. The bobbin winder is for a round bobbin, wonder what's under the long slide plate?

I believe that machine may be a Gellman Sew-Gem 215. If it is, it’s a Made in America machine that has a special right-hand bobbin case. I have one in my stash, but I’ve never fiddled with it.....

CD in Oklahoma

Macybaby 03-26-2015 09:27 AM

That is one NEAT machine!

CD- is there anything you don't have one of? I'm starting to think I need to head to OK instead of GA one of these trips. :)

SteveH 03-26-2015 10:30 AM

Yeah, I ain't touchin' that.

Now here's one I would love to own (the Singer double hemstitch):

http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/gms/4951271956.html

I contacted the seller of this machine:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/atq/4914916492.html

He wrote back indicating that he'd consider any offers above $700. I wished him the best of luck (with no discernible snark, honest).

Good deal on this one:

HHHMMMM I have one I would consider half $700..... kidding - mods don't throw me ooooooofffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.........

Rodney 03-28-2015 04:03 PM

KRA that last one you showed for $30 is a Wheeler & Wilson stand. The brickwork on the treadle is pretty distinctive. It's actually a better deal than if it was a Singer stand IMO.

I was wondering to what brand it belonged -- beautiful thing, isn't it? I love the design of the wheel and guard.

KenmoreRulesAll 03-28-2015 04:44 PM

I'm guessing part of the problem was a seller not knowing how to pack a machine:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/atq/4953382885.html

Rodney 03-28-2015 06:38 PM

That's my guess too. It wasn't a Singer case but was still a nice bentwood. Better to take the machine out and ship two boxes. One with the machine and one with the case.
Rodney

jlhmnj 03-28-2015 06:57 PM

Price is right and would make for a nice treadle head---some dangerous looking cords.

Jon

Rodney 03-29-2015 09:08 AM

The cords aren't too hard to replace.
A small tip. You can buy power cords at the thrift store for far less than buying raw wire and plug ends at the hardware store. You also get a nice molded plug on the end. 2 conductor zip cord is pretty much 2 conductor zip cord. The stuff has been around since at least the 1940s. For average machines this works and looks fine. If the machine were older and special I would go ahead and spring for cloth covered wire and vintage style ends if that's what it had originally.

Here's one I'd definitely buy were I closer:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/art/4953355971.html

I even like the cabinet re-paint (at least, from the picture posted -- I'd need to see it in person, of course).

Yep! 30.00 for a Singer 403 and in a Singer cabinet. I'd buy that too!
