Looking for needles

I have decided to revive a singer treadle machine, model 27-4, serial # D108089. I need some guidance as to making this live again. Bought a belt as the old one was gone. I need needles after I finish cleaning and oiling. I sewed on this as a child so is very special. Thanks.

Hi, have you looked at the ISMACS website? I found that particular machine takes a 15 X 1 needle. You should be able to download a PDF of the manual from the link below. I found the needle and thread info on page 12.

Welcome to Quilting Board. It warms my heart when machines in our youth are still around and usable. My brother and refurbished the treadle that my sister learned to sew on. She was very appreciative and tells me often of how she enjoys sewing with it. She has also sent me things that were pieced on the treadle.

Shari is correct that the needles you need are 15x1, which are now known as 130/705. These are the system numbers not the size numbers. There are some information sites and pictures about the different points that the 130/705 come in. This one has a great deal of information, but it looks like they mislabeled the scarf which on the opposite side of the long groove. https://www.sewingmachinefun.com/sew...-needle-chart/

The sewing machine needles come with different points as seen at https://www.migdigitizing.com/images...ng-Machine.png and https://www.kathykwylie.com/wp-conte...edle-Types.jpg These machines were made for sewing on woven fabric and generally one would want a sharp pointed needle. The size is dependent on the fabric and thread being used.

Hope this helps some.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...d-t312607.html

Another way to post pictures can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/showpo...postcount=1143
And how to use an ipad to post pictures can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...s-t318147.html

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post.

I have found that Jack's Needles, Shuttles, and Bobbins shop usually has needles which aren't standard today. He has been very quick to answer my questions, is very knowledgeable, and ships quickly. https://www.jacksneedles.com/

The Treadle Lady also carries many needles. Look for her shop on Etsy. She ships quickly and is just a delightful lady. It's fun to watch her videos on Instagram.

I'm tickled pink that you are getting your treadle up and running again!

I will quote this on another thread https://www.quiltingboard.com/vintag...p-t320612.html as it probably would apply better there as this thread is a about a 27-4 which takes needles that are commonly available.
