I answered a freecycle ad that said
"Small black Singer portable electric sewing machine with foot pedal - from 1940s, with instruction booklet, in black carrying case." BUT, the ad was already six hours old and I was told it had been claimed. What a great surprise to open my email today and find that the person never showed up, so I could have it. I ran over there (20 miles away) and it turned out to be a Featherweight 221-1!! The case is not musty, just dusty, and the machine itself just has scratches on the bed. However, it appeared the motor had seized. I oiled it and that didn't help. So, I got out the flashlight and magnifying glass and found some strong black thread stuck in the bobbin racer. Took almost an hour to get it out (thank goodness for tiny exacto knives!), and once it was out.....she works great! It came with all attachments and the original manual. Now to name her. I'm thinking Freida sounds about right. Last week, I bought a machine in a sewing table for $10 on Craig's list and it turned out to be a Singer 66-16 in great condition with all attachments and manual. Now to find a Singer 301 and I will have all I have been looking for. Diane |

Yes, I am beyond lucky to find this machine. I have been searching for two years for a Featherweight, and I just knew I would find one someday. I did write to the previous owner to thank her and ask for the history of the machine. No pix, camera is lost, but we all know what they look like anyway. Still grinning ear to ear over this! Diane |
You are one lucky person. I have never come across a free Featherweight. Around here, they are worth their weight in gold they are so expensive. The one I have, I got from Ebay about 8 years ago and I paid around $250 for it.
Enjoy your new toy - they are so much fun to use. |
WOW!! Two out of three, and one of them was free? Lucky You!! Quite a streak you have going :D:D:D

Me too. :-D :-D :-D |
Congrats, nice to see it go to someone who will love and take care of it, than a picker that would turn around and sell it for big bucks. Since you're having a lucky day, maybe a lotto ticket is in order
|
Congratulations! Welcome to the Featherweight club- you will love it.
|
Wow! Fantastic. Would love to have one.

Congratulations! I know how excited you must be. I found my first Featherweight at an antique shop for $18. But your deal was much better!
Happy sewing! |

Wow, what a great find. And you sure can't beat the price. Post a pic when you have time.

Just got an email from the lady who gave me the Featherweight. It had belonged to her grandmother who was from Philidelphia. So, I asked for her grandmother's first name and hopefully, I will like it enough to give the machine that name, otherwise it is still between Freida and Feesia, cuz I really like both.

Congratulations!!!
|
...and the history, too-what a treasure! You will have a name, whether you use it or not, to put with the machine. I'd think of this lady every time I used it!
|
That is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!! You have to name her something with Free in it like you said.
I am so happy for you!!! FW is such a fun machine!! I love mine even though I paid a lot for it lol WOWWWWWWWWWWWW :D Santa came to you early!!! |
